About this video: a 50x60x16 steel auto shop building review
In this 2:22 video, a Toro customer reviews the 50x60x16 red iron (I-beam) steel building he uses as an auto repair shop and garage. He covers how the design and drawings were customized, including a taller, wider door for his RV, steel that arrived already painted, putting the building up in about a week and a half, and how it has held up through four years of wind and snow storms.
His building is a Toro red iron steel building, the same kind of kit Toro supplies for small business shops and steel garages. Toro doesn't install buildings: every kit is engineered for bolt-together assembly, and this customer's building went up in about a week and a half.
- Custom doors. Multiple doors at different heights, including a taller, wider door so he can bring his RV inside.
- Pre-painted steel. The steel arrived painted, with no priming or painting on site.
- Four years later. After serious wind and snow storms, he says it still looks like it went up yesterday.

Why he chose Toro
0:11 I heard about them on the internet, and I did a little bit of research and I saw a lot of good reviews. So I decided to give them a try, and it was the best decision ever.
Design and drawings
0:19 I explained what my needs were in terms of sizing and all my requirements. After that, I was put in contact with one of their staff, and they sent me a preliminary drawing.
0:35 After the drawing came back, we had to tweak it a little bit, make a few little changes here and there: multiple doors at different heights, because I bring my RV into the garage, so I need to have a little bit taller door and a wider door for the RV. They were able to customize everything based on my requirements. They were able to totally adapt it to exactly what I wanted.
Pre-painted steel
0:59 I love the fact that when I got this building, the metal, everything was already painted. It was very, very good, clean, presentable, and the way it is right now is the way I got it. I didn't have to paint it. I didn't have to prime it. I didn't have to do anything. It was just put it up and it's done.
Assembly and delivery
1:18 To be honest, the entire building went up probably within a week, a week and a half. It's basically like a puzzle. You're just putting the puzzle together. The instructions are solid. As long as you know how to read, you can figure it out, and before you know it, everything's all up. You can't imagine that it went up so seamlessly.
1:38 They delivered to me sooner than the date that I had in my mind, and everything was perfect. I have no complaints from that aspect.
Four years later
1:47 I've had this building up now for four years. If anybody was to come look at it, it looks like it was installed yesterday. It's very, very durable. Everything is good, solid. It's gone through some serious wind storms and snowstorms, and it's still as if I just got it. It's still very, very rugged. I would basically recommend it to anybody.

Questions about steel auto shop buildings
Still unsure? Price your building and a building specialist will walk you through it.
Can a steel building be used as an auto repair shop?
Yes. The customer in this video runs his auto repair shop in a 50x60x16 Toro red iron (I-beam) building. Red iron's clear spans keep the floor open for service bays, lifts and vehicles. Toro engineers each building around how you'll use it, including door openings, wall height and the loads at your site.
Can I get taller doors for an RV or larger vehicles?
Yes. Your building specialist designs the framed openings at the sizes and heights you need, like the taller, wider RV door in this video. Toro engineers the framed openings, and most customers source the doors themselves from a local supplier.
Does the steel arrive pre-painted?
Yes. As the customer describes, the steel arrives already painted, so there's no priming or painting on site. You choose your colours while your building is being designed, and Toro's straight-wall buildings, including red iron, carry a 25 to 40-year paint warranty depending on the colour and package.
How long does it take to put up a 50x60 steel building?
This customer's building went up in about a week to a week and a half. Assembly time depends on the building's size, the crew and the equipment on site. Toro doesn't install buildings: every kit is engineered for bolt-together assembly by the customer or a local contractor.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery usually takes 2 to 8 weeks. Your building specialist will confirm the timing for your order, and you'll need to arrange unloading when the kit arrives.
How much does a steel auto shop building cost?
Toro steel building kits start at $19 USD per sq ft in the U.S. and $26 CAD per sq ft in Canada. Your site's loads and codes, along with size, framing system, openings and options, have a big impact on the final price, so reach out for pricing on your specific building.
